New Standard for Determination of Non-Methane Total Hydrocarbons Released

New Standard for Determination of Non-Methane Total Hydrocarbons Released

A few days ago, the Ministry of Environmental Protection issued ten standards including “Determination of Total Hydrocarbons, Methane and Non-Methane Total Hydrocarbons in Stationary Pollution Source Waste Gas – Gas Chromatography” as national environmental protection standards. Among them, “Gas Chromatography Method for Determination of Total Hydrocarbons, Methane and Non-Methane Total Hydrocarbons in Exhaust Gas from Stationary Pollution Sources” (HJ 38-2017) will replace “Gas Chromatography Method for Determination of Non-Methane Total Hydrocarbons in Exhaust Gas from Stationary Pollution Sources” (HJ/T 38- 1999), which has become the standard for the determination of non-methane total hydrocarbons in waste gas from stationary pollution sources.

So far, “Determination of Total Hydrocarbons, Methane and Non-Methane Total Hydrocarbons in Ambient Air Direct Injection-Gas Chromatography” (HJ 604-2017), “Determination of Total Hydrocarbons, Methane and Non-Methane Total Hydrocarbons in Stationary Pollution Source Gas Chromatography” (HJ 38-2017) have been published, completing the replacement of the old and new standards.

Compared with the 1999 version, the main changes of the 2017 version of the new standard are: the scope of application is clarified, and it is only applicable to total hydrocarbons, methane and non-methane total hydrocarbons in the organically emitted exhaust gas from fixed pollution sources; the standard gas is changed from methane and propane mixed gas to Methane gas; analytical chromatographic columns are added with capillary chromatographic columns; single-point calibration has been deleted; and other related content, please refer to the original text of the standard.

The original text of the announcement of the Ministry of Environmental Protection (Announcement No. 86 of 2017) is as follows:

In order to implement the “Environmental Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China”, protect the environment, protect human health, and standardize environmental monitoring work, ten standards including “Determination of Hexavalent Chromium in Water Quality by Flow Injection-Diphenylcarbazide Spectrophotometry” are now approved as national standards. Environmental protection standards, and issued.

The standard names and numbers are as follows:

1. “Water Quality Determination of Hexavalent Chromium Flow Injection-Diphenylcarbazide Spectrophotometry” (HJ 908-2017);

2. “Water Quality – Determination of Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers – Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry” (HJ 909-2017);

3. “Ambient Air Determination of Gaseous Mercury Gold Film Concentration/Cold Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry” (HJ 910-2017);

4. Technical Specification for Manual Monitoring of Ambient Air Quality (HJ 194-2017);

5. “Determination of Total Hydrocarbons, Methane and Non-Methane Total Hydrocarbons in Stationary Pollution Source Waste Gas-Gas Chromatography” (HJ 38-2017);

6. “Determination of Gaseous Total Phosphorus in Exhaust Gas from Stationary Pollution Sources-Quinomolybdenum Limonone Volumetric Method” (HJ 545-2017);

7. “Determination of Chlorine from Stationary Pollution Sources – Iodometric Method” (HJ 547-2017);

8. “Soil and Sediment – Extraction of Organic Matter – Ultrasonic Extraction” (HJ 911-2017);

9. “Solid Waste – Determination of Organochlorine Agricultural Products – Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry” (HJ 912-2017);

10. “Technical Specifications for Research and Replication of Environmental Standard Samples” (HJ 173-2017).

The above standards have been implemented since April 1, 2018 and are published by China Environment Press. The content of the standards can be inquired at the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

Since the implementation of the above standards, the former State Environmental Protection Administration approved and issued on August 18, 1999 “Gas Chromatography Method for Determination of Non-Methane Total Hydrocarbons in Exhaust Gas from Stationary Pollution Sources” (HJ/T 38-1999), March 2005 “Technical Specifications for Research and Replication of Environmental Standard Samples” (HJ/T 173-2005) approved and released on November 24, 2005 “Technical Specifications for Manual Monitoring of Ambient Air Quality” (HJ/T 194-2005) approved and issued on November 9, 2005 , the Ministry of Environmental Protection approved and issued on December 30, 2009 the “Determination of Gaseous Total Phosphorus from Stationary Pollution Sources Gaseous Total Phosphorus (Interim)” (HJ 545-2009) and “Determination of Stationary Pollution Source Waste Gas lv Gas Determination Iodometric Method (Provisional)” (HJ 547-2009) shall be repealed.
